I am abroad and have a breakdown — what do I do now?

As soon as you are safe, immediately call the international roadside assistance service applicable to your vehicle.

Step-by-step plan

  • Ensure your safety first
  • Immediately contact international roadside assistance
  • Wait for the breakdown service or tow truck
  • Follow the instructions of the assistance provider (repair or replacement vehicle)
  • Keep all documents and evidence
  • Inform your leasing company and Mobilitypower

Additional information

  • Place the vehicle in a safe spot, put on your reflective vest, and place the warning triangle.
  • If possible, stand behind the crash barrier. In case of emergency, call 112 (the EU emergency number).
  • Look up the international roadside assistance number in your mobility policy, this portal, or the car’s documents. Provide your licence plate, exact location, and the nature of the problem. Mention that it is a lease vehicle and that you need a replacement. Also state whether the vehicle is still drivable.
  • Not sure where you are? Use Google Maps to share your exact location or GPS coordinates.
  • The assistance service sends a local partner to your location. They will try to repair the car on-site (e.g., flat tire, battery issue, minor defect). If this is not possible, the vehicle will be towed to an authorised garage abroad or a secure depot.
  • Assistance coordinates transport directly with the leasing company; you do not need to pay anything yourself unless exceptionally stated by the leasing company.
  • Ask the assistance provider how quickly your vehicle will be available again to determine whether you need a replacement car.
  • Tip: Write down the case number provided by assistance and keep all documentation or receipts in case reimbursement is required.
  • Inform the leasing company and Mobilitypower as soon as possible through one of the contact channels.
